New Zealand Trip – 2007
Cindy, Emily and I enjoyed 5 weeks in New Zealand over March and April 2007. We traveled over 4000 miles circling the South Island in a RV and visiting friends and family in the North Island, including my father's 70th birthday. Emily was very popular and a good traveler. Emily was born Friday 11/24 at
Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Walnut Creek, CA. Cindy’s labor began early Friday morning at 2.30 AM and she was admitted to hospital at 1PM later that same day. Cindy was tempted to get an epidural as her contractions got more and more intense but with the support and encouragement of her labor and delivery team, she was able to give birth to Emily without pain medication at 6.50 PM. Cindy and Emily stayed in hospital for one night and were discharged 24 hours after the birth which is standard hospital policy for normal, uncomplicated births. Cindy’s parents have been assisting us with childcare and cooking. Emily developed jaundice, which is common with newborns, so the following day we returned to the hospital for testing. Her case is not serious enough for her to be readmitted and as long as Emily continues feeding well, the jaundice should fade on its own. Otherwise, she is doing great!
